healing on the mat, conceived by dr. shena young, is a 10 week healing workshop series rooted in africana womanist theory and created for black womxn survivors of sexual trauma. grounded in research about the psychophysiological impact of sexual trauma, it also offers intentions to heal in mind, body, heart, & spirit.
each week, participants will engage in holistic self study, grounding meditation, and a pre-recorded theme based trauma informed yoga class. workshop curriculum sensitively explores and promotes embodiment, reclamation of choice in relationship to the body, exploration of relationship to self/others, healthy coping skills + boundary setting, regulation of the nervous system, repair of intuition, spirituality as a source of support, and so much more. and in the end...we celebrate our healing with a surprise + joyful movement practice. healing on the mat participants will receive an exclusive discount on select apparel & healing tools featured throughout the program.
the healing on the mat program centers the needs & lived experiences of black womxn survivors, however BIWOC are invited to enroll. no yoga experience required. while the healing on the mat program is not a replacement for therapy, it is therapeutic and may be a great complement to traditional therapy. keep reading for more information about the program curriculum. hope to heal on the mat with you soon...
